EDF and the French Development Agency sign a FEXTE contract

On the 25th of July, EDF signed a FEXTE contract (Fund for Technical Expertise and Experience Sharing) with the French Development Agency (AFD) and Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM). This tripartite contract aims to improve the performance of Mozambique's dispatching system and electricity network, following the blackout that affected the south of the country two years ago.
EDF and SCATEC committed for the development of Mpatamanga hydroelectric plant in Malawi

KES celebrates its 10-years business in South Africa

Founded in 2002, Kukhanya Energy Services (KES) celebrates this year its 20th anniversary, an opportunity to look back on its successful activities. KES is actually EDF oldest off-grid JV and took an active part in EDF development on the off-grid market. Since 20 years, KES has been commercializing Solar Home Systems in Kuazulu Natal and Easter Cape, with the ambition to support electrification of South Africa’s remote rural areas.

REIPP bid : EDF Renewables wind farm ambitions keep on growing

In October 2021, EDF Renewables was awarded 3 out of 25 projects announced in the Bid Window 5 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP), out of the 39 projects received. When complete, the Coleskop, San Kraal and Phezukomova Energy Facilities (140 MW each) will supply electricity to 420,000 local people in Umbsobomvu Local Municipality.
EDF Pulse Africa Tour - EDF Pulse settles in South Africa and selects a candidate

Since 2017, EDF has developed its Innovation Award EDF Pulse in Africa, with the ambition to support and assist African innovators acting for energy development in their countries.
For its 4th edition, EDF Pulse Africa organized seven selection sessions in seven African countries to elect the Award finalists. The roadshow EDF Pulse Africa Tour stepped by Johannesburg on October 2021 to audition the X candidates coming from South Africa.
The jury eventually decided to award Jérome Yasbek, Helix Power CEO, for its hydropower energy project. Helix Power develops hydro-kinetic generators similar to grid-scale hydroelectric power plants but on a much smaller scale.

The Umoyilanga project - First innovative hybrid project for EDF in South Africa

In March 2021, EDF Renewables in a consortium composed with its partner Perpetua Holding, won the Umoyilanga project in the Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement Programme (RMI4P), developed by the Government.
This innovative project will work as a virtual power plant, combining solar, wind and battery storage technologies to offer 75 MW of dispatchable power to the National Grid. This comprises a 77 MW wind farm on the coast in the south of SA, and a 138 MW solar power plant in the Northern Cape region, which benefits from the country best solar irradiation. Both power plants will be equipped with a battery storage system totalling 75 MW of power. The low-carbon electricity produced each year will help meet the electricity needs of 124,000 local people.
